What Anne does for a living

Work on needles

Technically, one pair of socks for Chris and one stripy top for me. All very boring and have been queuing up for ages. Let's face it, Chris' socks have been 'on the needles' for so long, they may be rotting. And the stripy top is just... not... lace... that seems to be the problem.

Back again...
OK, so Ihaven't updated for yonks. Life has been too busy, and whereas I've contemplated ceasing with blogging altogether, I do recognize that these lull periods occur, and are part of the rich tapestry of life, or, at least, the scenario in which I am overextending myself beyond blogging capacity. So, back to business.

The nutmeg alpaca shawl is all but knit. I'm on the last border, the second short one, and I have one ball of alpaca 4-ply left, which will give me, hopefully, 4 repeats plus a couple of garter stitch rows to finish. If not, the last repeat will have to be shortened, which I have determined will add to the charm. It's very, very warm, even to have draped over one's lap whilst knitting, so will be welcome in winter. Picis when finished.

I've been busy setting up a new suite of RSI clinics in London and Brighton for those with repetitive strain injury - which can also come about from excessive knitting!!! - but more likely to result from excessinve keyboarding ... anyhoo, the deed is set out in clear relief here at RSI Clinics .

September 1st

Where did August go... ?
It's been the most lovely summer, working just Mondays in London and Tuesday mornings at home, keeping bills at bay and feeding the three kids who returned during universty vac, job, city and flat change, and... well... the oldest hasn't actually left yet :)

I've read loads (I'll list the main tomes in the right hand column), I've had lots of ideas for creative pursuits and manifested only very few of them, I've logged up some serendipitous synchronicities, had fun with friends, nearly fallen in love... trying frantically to disentangle before it all goes horribly wrong, but she is lovely, of course..., taught a new (for me) course yesterday on anatomy with Jing, had our myofascial unwinding day the day before, and am booking in clients thick and fast, and have renewed and tended my herb collection in the courtyard. The olive tree has grown and grown and grown, and my black mint has gone woody... almost overnight... or did I just not see it for a couple of weeks?

I've also wound up most of my hemp into balls so that I can begin swatching for some more lace shawls, this time I shall design them myself from scratch, rather than adapting and cannibalising others' designs.

Knitting Nature - Norah Gaughan
Fab fab fab, this woman is a mathematician and her designs show a wonderful feel for harmonies and shapes and hypnotic swirls... I want to knit Starfish Shawl in hemp...

Type in a favourite author and see which other authors are liked by other readers of the same author. The idea is that the closer two writers are on the map (the names dance around), the more likely someone will like both of them. Or type the names of three authors who interest you and it will give you suggestions for further reading.

Read this month and last:

Break no Bones - Kathy Reichs

Forensic Anthropology crime, fun but not as good as Patricia Cornwell

US shoppers click here: Break no Bones

Mapping the Mind - Rita Carter

Not-too-technical book on how the brain works... as far as we know... assumptions are a bit far-fetched, but is based on brain scans and written on the assumption the mind can be mapped through brain scans...

Matrix Energetics - Richard Bartlett

Hands-on how to get into the zero point field, another useful approach to energy medicine

The Divine Matrix - Gregg Braden

Quantum Physics in every day application. Much more technical and substantially argued than 'Matrix Energetics', despite the daft name. Both this and the one above are written for an American audience, both are extremely easy reads, one a day sort of thing.

Llewellyn's Herbal Almanac 2008

Thirty articles on herbs and their uses, including moon phase tables for 2008. to the point and useful.
