Stash update

... blushes but no picis yet. Inspired by the fabulous Larry allowing us a peek into his stash boxes, I remembered my stash page, and how I haven't updated for two months. But I have been acquiring yarn!!! And some of the yarn in the stash has been knitted up. Update will be a (this) weekend project. To whet my own appetite, let's see: 1600 g old gold chenille 'sueded' yarn, 1100 g soft beige alpaca / mohair mix, both on cone, both from ebay. Vast amounts of 4ply (sock weight / fingering) alpaca (70% alpaca, 30% pure new wool), also from ebay. 500g in dark grape, 1000 g in red, 1000 g in spring green, 500 g in darker summery leaf green, 500 g in mulberry, 500 g in 'nutmeg', a dark tweedy beige, 500 g in gold, 500 g in old gold. All for about 50p per 50g. That's about 75c and very, very good value for here. And then there was 500 g silver mohair on cone. And 1000 g of a rather luscious cotton / viscous / wool mix in creams, in 100g balls.

Please welcome Jacqueline with her new knitting blog.

I haven't told you about the knitting meet at the Hobgoblin, have I? Will have to do it tomorrow.

More socks

... in a lovely creamy beige Regia cotton mix. And, hurrah! I have found my way back into the beaded hemp top. I'd forgotten how wonderful this stuff is to knit with. I am sitting typing away and listening to the birds. The day is beautiful and sunny and I am so glad for that. I am very much affected by my surroundings and the weather, but I don't always consciously notice either. They seem to seep into me without my realising. And I don't remember weather either. I have a dim idea that it has been raining a lot recently.

The pre-study for my NLP/PNI course is going really well. I love this stuff. At the moment it's all NLP, which I delved into with a short six-day course some years ago. Always wanted to pursue it further, but it was only when this training with the PNI came up that I knew it was the right course and the right time.

Do I sound slightly fragmented today? Er... yes. I feel odd.

Hobgoblin it is, then!

Joan and Fran suggested the Monday meet at the Hobgoblin, then Linda found it too - if anyone who 'voted' on my poll wants to meet up at a different time / place, please get in touch! (I am aware that only two of us voted for a weekday evening, and that was in Lewes...). Penny organizes the Brighton meet and her website is here .

I am going to close the poll now, so please email me if you voted and would still like to meet, notwithstanding the Hobgoblin's intervention.

Onto more mundane things: the end of the heating / plumbing saga is nigh. This morning at 8:15 sharp, seconds after my first client (who had arrived 15 minutes early by mistake - that's harsh!), Brian the plumber turned up with an electrician, closely followed by two builder-type chaps. What ensued was a truly surreal day. Picture this: the electrician is delightfully gay, becoming even coquettish as he settles in to exploring the vagaries of our house's bizarre wiring; the builder blokes are as macho as they possibly can be, presumably to make up for the electrician; and Brian wanders around from room to room on his very own little planet humming the national anthem. He discovered another iron pipe which broke off as he pulled it out from behind the plaster in the drawing room into the bathroom-in-limbo above (don't ask, just know that we are all timber framed, which makes ceilings just the other side of flooring and cubbyholes behind feeble attempts at plastering mere invitations to hide skeletons). He plastered up the wall again to a medley of 50s tunes and aforementioned NA. The electrician cleared out my kitchen cabinets for me (I'm his friend for life), in the search for some elusive wires when he discovered that the thermostat only worked when the lamp over the dining table was switched on. He also fed JamTart. JT shared most of everybody's lunches. It's been an extremely happy day.

Ta Daaaaah!

Luscious and Denim Socks. Finished.

We've grown to five votes on the proposed knitters' meet. Does anyone fancy meeting up with the others (as well?) on a Monday evening in Brighton?

I'm a triolet

I always knew it
If they told you I'm mad, then they lied.
I'm odd, but it isn't compulsive.
I'm the triolet, bursting with pride;
If they told you I'm mad, then they lied.
No, it isn't obsessive. Now hide
All the spoons or I might get convulsive.
If they told you I'm mad then they lied.
I'm odd, but it isn't compulsive.
What Poetry Form Are You?

And I have finished the denim socks and am powering away on the sleeve cap of Luscious.

Better get my arse in gear

The papers came through yesterday for my PNI/NLP practitioner training - about 500 pages of required reading and 20 CDs for the pre-course test. Yegods! I start in mid-June. Actually I am very excited about it.

Have been feeling really ill. Haven't been ill for years. Sore throat, followed by extreme physical weakness, followed by fever, followed by 14 hours sleep. Am better now, just a little tired. Hope I shall be OK by tomorrow, Monday. Did I catch it from Larry? He's not been well either. Go and say hallo to cheer him up.

This is what I have been working on. The blue is a little startling in the pici; think more along denim lines.

A glass of wine by the pond...

In the evening sunshine. Another aaaaaaah experience. All on my own and blissfully so. DH at U14s cricket match handing over some administrative duty to the next hapless parent-organiser; DS1 under his LR Defender, fiddling; DS2 playing cricket down at Lewes (he's not quite lost his ozzy accent yet); DD training with the men at Lewes and watching bro; GF hoping for tickets to Wimbledon in the draw at her tennis club meeting tonight and intending to acquire tickets for the Eastbourne tennis champs... haven't been for about 20 years. Should be fun. Birds trilling, second sock half knitted, not feeling guilty about being a mere 2 hours work from finishing Luscious. Aaaaaaaaah indeed.

The beaded hemp top is totally stalled. So badly, in fact, that I cannot remember for the life of me what I was doing with it, how the pattern goes (surely I wrote it down somewhere? Didn't I? I wouldn't have just started knitting away would I .... ?)

It will take major effort and plenty of peace and quiet to 'read' the knitting and find out where I was going and what I had in mind. I do think I wrote the pattern for the structure, i.e. the shape, somewhere, but not the lacy, beady, pretty bit. Did I do yo or yu? Damn!

Met my ex-HOD in Tesco tonight. She escaped teaching in some anguish, having been treated unbelievably badly by an extraordinarily arrogant, aggressive Deputy Head for years and years and years. She was looking 20 years younger (I exagerate not one jot), and has got a post at Sussex University overseeing the PGCE (postgraduate teacher training) students for primary MFL. One happy bunny. Our old school is holding on to staff, as always, like a colander holds on to minestrone. We had a brief 'I'm so happy I'm out of there' session by the wine. Best place.

May 3rd
Aaaaaaaaah!

Had a lovely weekend on the second part of my Pilates course and only worked a half day today (Monday Bank holiday over here across the pond). So am feeling quite chilled. Managed to get totally engrossed in two management books over the weekend, one by Ricardo Semler, who runs the type of company I would have liked to work with, and the other by the 'Chicken Soup for the ... soul' guys, about making millions quickly. Hilarious. The Chicken Soup guys are renowned for not paying authors until the day after the day after they are supposed to.
