4th June
Have been putting in too many hours in the clinic. Time to chill out and knit. However I've finished the grey green textured ankle socks for me (photo tomorrow) and my yarn from Oz arrived today, so I have spent moments between patients swatching. Details tomorrow, I'm off to bed.

2nd June
Ooooh, I feel slightly chastened: I have come across several references to rowan's felted tweed in the last couple of days, in which knitters rave about it. Am I missing something? I knitted Toria's daisy in it, and it got on my nerves. I found it dusty and scratchy, not quite the meltingly light fluffy effect that it seems to have on others. I dug out a ball and had another feel... no better. I must have a faulty part in my yarn sensing apparatus. I only feel very slightly chastened, though :)

It really is the 1st June
Ahem. In all the yarn and cricket rush I must have mislaid the date. Today is indeed June 1st, and yesterday wasn't. In any case, it's Sunday, so take it as you will. Today we found Berkshire (piece of cake) and played their Under 17s. At least Toria and 11 others did. We got them all out for 99, with Toria bowling 4 wickets for 19 runs off 9 overs. We got the 100 runs required in a very leisurely twenty-something overs. It rained on and off, and the only thing that hurried the girls up was a downpour. Fun had by all. No knitting done, as I was scoring under several umbrellas and my Barbour.

1st June
Well - the trip to the Lewes needlework fair was successful. I snapped up a large amount of pure wool in hanks - I reckon 800g or so - in a beautiful mid pink (for £5!!!). Then I succombed to Sue's Noro and bought 400g of the pure wool aran weight in pinks and oranges. Not sure what to do with either. However, I did also find two beautiful large seed pearls to go on the outside of the black socks I have in mind for someone.

The green/grey socks are well underway, first one finished. You know I was talking about grafting - that 'absurdly simple' technique? Well, I've forgotten how to do it and couldn't for the life of me figure it out on the latest sock. So, somehow the toe is cobbled together, and I shall work out the graft once and for all on the second, then frog the first. Hmpphhh.

Toria played for the men today and bowled 7 overs for 14... no wickets, but was most economical of all. They simply can't hit runs off her. Then she batted well, but only got a few runs (as did the chaps!). She can hold her own with the men any day. Tomorrow she and the rest of the Sussex U17s play Berkshire, somewhere in... Berkshire (which I believe is slightly left of London when one is ascending from the south; I get increasingly bewildered during the summer months when I am reduced to regarding England as a large network of cunningly concealed cricket grounds. Thank god for maps and well-trialed directions!)

I haven't done anything for Jammy for the mousalong yet... but the Killertart herself has located a whole bed of catmint near the terrace (of course I knew it was there, all the time) and she spends an inordinate amount of time trying either the backstroke in it, or attempting to plough it with her nose. I shall be stuffing one mouse with fresh (yuk) and one with dried leaves.

Tamara - are you out there somewhere? Haven't heard from you for ages. How's it going?

Jean Frost Jackets

The more I read through this book, the better it becomes. Of the 21 patterns for jackets and shaped cardigans, there are none I would not want to own - even with my 40" hips. Even the two lacy ones are really elegant. The shaping is the key to a tailored look, and this combined with the textures and colour patterns (slip stitches, not fairisle or intarsia) makes a superb look. These jackets have sharp stying and are classy enough to stand the test of time. Stash won't do for my first one of these - I'm going to have to splash out.
