At last - picis!

Project Melanie's Baby is now finished, at least for the new-born batch, and will need to be sent off this weekend. Here they are: below the lemony speckled T-shirt, pullover and jacket with shorts is the apple green rude boy trousers and pullover outfit, then the peachey coral baby blanket followed by both blankets together. Picis taken outside on what seems like the *only* sunny day we have had since May. Really. I need sunshine.

And here is Rachie's birthday scarf. GF Meg is keeping her too busy to look at the blog, so I can post intrepidly. Aren't the tassles heavenly? They come from Nicky Epstein's book, see link below.

Love of my life

Jamtart has finally put her paw down and is refusing to eat anything out of a tin that has been open for longer than 90 seconds - so it's extremely expensive whiskas sachets topped up with fresh mouse for her.

Rachel's Birthday scarf has not only been started, it's nearly finished. 4ply alpaca taken double for aran weight, almost double moss stitch, but it goes *two rows of k2, p2, one row p2, k2* on stitches divisible by 4. Makes a sort of broken rib that holds its width-ways shape. The pièce de résistance are the corkscrew tassles from Nicky Epstein's Knitting on the Edge. DH has absconded with digicamera, so picis when he returns.

Fini!

Peachey baby blanket is finished and going round in the washing machine at this very moment. Somehow it got dragged over floors and into and out of cars, rehearsing for its soon-to-be real role in life.

What do I knit for Rachel's birthday? Meg seemed to like the scarf, but 24th July seems too summery for another alpaca scarf for Rache. Hmmmmmmmm.

Tozwoz (DD Victoria) is just hopping over to the South of France with her college for a week's swamp swimming... they are doing major biology projects with pondlife. The green slimy sort of pondlife you find in rivers rather than local youth. Yuk. Anyway, she is looking forward to it immensely and is experiencing the usual 'it won't all fit in the suitcase' excitement.

It's a combined biology and geography field trip. I hope that means that we can rely on the geographers to find the way back home at the end of the day... (Last famous France trip Chailey School did was led by head of geog and another geography teacher, and they found themselves heading the wrong way up the French motorway for an hour - tee hee! - one can only imagine the lengths they went to to distract the kids so they wouldn't notice!)

I have noticed that the distribution of travel opportunities is far from fair in this family. Wasn't it just a few short weeks ago Toz was in Germany? And isn't she shooting off to Italy on cricket tour for two weeks with Lewes Priory at the end of June? And where is my foreign trip this year?

Crivens!

I've just read Terry Pratchett's Wee Free Men - ha ha ha! and found this morning on my blog crawl The Knitting Revolutionary who seems to appreciate TP's philosophical tickle factor as well. Good blog, and I love the quote at the top.

Private blogs?

There has been discussion recently, I don't know where it started, about the 'danger' of someone reading your blog whom you would rather not have reading it. I still don't think I understand what the problem is... I operate along the lines of 'if there is something someone shouldn't know, don't blog it!' Those of us who would rather have private blogs don't publish them on the internet in such a way that anyone can access them, i.e. through these types of public journals. Or am I missing a point somewhere?

The flip side of this is getting the odd email here and there (sometimes quite a few) from people who don't like what we write, or don't like our attitude, or feel they have to preach righteousness - to which the reply is: hey, go and create your own blog. Don't read mine if you can't get anything constructive out of it. Just as there is an 'off' switch or other channels on the TV, you have the choice to navigate away from my blog. Having said that, I am always happy to hear constructive criticism, discussion of the odd issue that crops up here and there, the to and fro of honest banter. And please let me know the reason should you decide to remove your link to me after years of (what I thought was) happy etheric union. Wendy?

The baby blanket is over half way there. In the absence of a digicamera, you'll have to imagine soft peachey coral in very soft DK cotton, knit on 3.75mm needles. It's the Easy Eyelet Blanket from Melanie Falick's Knitting for Baby, a garter stitch diamond shape, starting at a corner point and growing outwards with single eyelets along the sides. It really is easy and soooooo soft. This is the last thing for Melanie's Baby. (Not Melanie Falick, another Melanie!)

No progress on socks, but I'll get back to them as soon as the blanket is done. And the beaded hemp top... er, no. Can't get the energy up. Odd. Shall have another go soon. I may have to sneak up on myself and just pick it up and pretend I am doing something else until I get hooked again. That may work. I'll let you know.

July 2nd
Doh!!

Meg's scarf was duly finished and ends sewn in... and DH went off with digicamera on an expedition and I had to wrap up the scarf before I could photograph it! I shall ask Meg if it is possible to have a pici of her wearing it when she's opened it. Her birthday is tomorrow.

What can I say about the course?
It was truly worth while. Seldom has a course been so worth the time (13 days I was away, just training!) and the money, both in fees and lost revenue from the clinic. Don't ask. I shall never think the same again, and the work ahead is slightly boggling, but I like that :) For those of you familiar with NLP, it was all of practitioner certification and that made up about 10% of the entire training. NLP put into context.
