30th January 2003
I've been neglecting the blog terribly. It's been busy. Anyway, Mike's socks are well underway and I nipped into my LYS yesterday to see if they had any sock yarn - usually only rather glum grey/brown. What I found was cygnet 4ply, 75% wool, 25% polyamide, 50 g for ...m - doesn't give the length (why not!?!?!?!?). For a phenomenal £1.20 per ball. I bought one navy, in case current socks need helping out with the toes, 3 creams, 2 lovely greys, 2 mellow blues and 2 mellow lilacs. I'm going to knit a pair of toe-up socks to see how far one ball takes me. I also bought a set of 5 5.5mm dp needles for London beanies from three skeins of chunky I have in my stash.

??th January 2003
What's the date today? I've lost count, but it is definitely Sunday. Life has been hectic, but I've finished the fairisle socks. Here they are:

Can anyone spot the difference? What exactly did I do? A skein of Patricia Roberts Woolybear 4ply (the stuff I did these socks in) from my stash to the first person to reply with the correct answer!

About three minutes later...

Linda's done it!!!!!
Here are the yarns to choose from. For the blueier ones, think more grey/green. They really are mellow.

This damned site is loading so slowly... I may have to archive some of it.

Inga has been an incredibly prolific knitter in 2002. 33 pairs of socks and I don't know what else. Visit her here . It's in German, but you should get the drift even if you don't know the lingo.

22nd January 2003
Not much to report, except a very full day in the clinic and a turned heel on the fairisle sock. I'll spare you yet another pici until it's finished. I'm thinking about which socks to knit next, and I think it may be some more Opal self-patterning ones. For Mike. He's changed his mind about the colour, and he has not had any socks since Toria knitted him a pair ages ago. It's dark blue with quite a smattering of fuchsia, other blues and a little yellow. Sounds blech, but is actually rather nice. I shall do the toes and heels in a dark duck egg blue pure wool, in 1X1 self-coloured fairisle to reinforce, but I may change my mind once the yarn is in its knitted aspect.

Joe has had the best idea I've seen this year. Go and see him at Queerjoe and request an entry form for the championships. I'm sure he's got some printed up somewhere...

20th January 2003
Am zooming down the ankle of the second fairisle sock. I've changed the pattern a little as I can't bear them both exactly the same. Photo will tell all.

Jamtart can't quite fit in the knitting basket, but is trying very hard.

Aah. That's better. Narrowly avoiding the dp needle, but taking advantage of several inches of pure wool upon which to rest midsection.

Or maybe this way. Now, if only they would stop flashing that thing at me. Grrrrrrr.
