16th December
Finished!
All super-secret projects have been finished and ends sewn in. I'm now wrapping and packing like an idiot, as some have to be sent (by post!!!) so they may become New Year's presis. Selected highlights in picis after Christmas. This week will be totally hectic, and I have just filled my last remaining booking space for massage. Having said that, I have exactly 5 bookings for the week beginning 29th December, so it's all swings and roundabouts in the end. I suspect there may be some new enthusiasts for Pilates classes in the new year :)

I am already looking forward to making plans for the new year, and starting a new list of 'finished items'. I would really like to clear the UFOs by 31st December, particularly Mike's cable sweater, but it's unlikely:( It would be a miracle if I could finish the grey cables for Christmas *and* the beaded hemp top for New Year's Eve!!! In the case of miracles absent, there would still be only two projects on the needles, both of which I am enthusiastic about. So many ideas, so little time...

12th December
Last of the super-secret projects
Knitting has been frantic and super-secret, and will have to remain that way until yuletide. But I'm nearly there. The latest little trio is in 'Jazz' (pattern only as recipient is not crochet/knit literate and won't be able to work it out: co 40 chains, dcrochet away every other stitch with ch inbetween each dc for 94 rows) and Jaeger pure merino in a colour that melts into the jazz (co 44 sts on dpns and have plenty of safety pins at the ready) with a couple of details in the Jazz. All done in moments snatched here and there.

The cable jumper... well, when I have finished and sent off ss projects (this w/end, alongside the Christmas show at the gallery) I have an incredibly full week next week, plus some writing for one of the South African publishers (why did I agree to that?) and I shall crack on with the grey one regardless. I would still like it to be finished by Christmas, and at least it's not secret, but I suspect it will be more like a New Year's present. Beaded hemp has taken a back seat as it's not a Christmas presi.

Had another candling today. My hearing is gradually improving, so I am going back for another degunge Monday week. Slow but sure. I am drawing the line at the Indian Head massage. Syringing is not good because of the forcing of water at pressure and speed into your ears, which then dislodges the wax (by force) and swooshes it out. Hmmm.

10th December
What have I been doing?
Knitting, working, preparing for Christmas show (Bradness Gallery), working some more, trying not to spend any more money before my tax bill is due, worrying about not having any more hours to work, getting my legs waxed, learning to hear again, reading and knitting.

6th December
Keep on munchin'

Candling update
Well, the ears are now free, following a little warm olive oil. All in all I'm very glad I started the process as syringing can be so damaging, and this is entirely harmless. Just takes longer. For a 'quick fix' society, it's probably out of fashion. I still can't believe the Indian Head Massage attempt. I didn't ask for one in the first place, and this woman was maybe a good ear-candler, but not a massage therapist. The mind boggles...

5th December
Bizarre indeed!
Ear candling, I mean. The theory (summarised neatly by Tamara, kitten Tomsk's human) is that someone "inserts a tube made of candle wax into the ear entrance and lights it, so it sucks out the wax". Well, yes. That's what happens. Except that in my case there must have been so much wax that I felt / heard a little gurgle, and when the therapist was cotton-budding around, my left ear went wholy deaf. Completely. This lady then went straight into Indian Head Massage mode, something I found extremely irritating (being a bodywork practitioner myself - this was like being sold financial services by one who had been on a weekend course rather than one who was a graduate of LSE - and I was not a little perturbed about being more gunged up than before) and then said therapist had the lack of insight to ask me if I "usually found it difficult to relax"... I was restrained. I am going back next week for a follow-up degunge, but I'll ask her to give the IHM a break. My actual massage therapist laughed her head off about it. I could only hiss that *she* should have been the one on the receiving end, then she wouldn't be laughing, before she rendered me entirely comatose with *genuine* Eastern massage. Hmmmmmpf.

4th December
A first in christmas shopping achievements...
I've started it!!! And it's only 4th December. In fact, I started it yesterday. Not all of it was online, some little gems were hand-picked on an actual shopping outing. Usually I panic mid-december and have to go into extreme household management mode, conducting a military-style operation to stage a Christmas show. Over the years the show has become less and less labour intensive (blame it on domestic fatigue), but now the kiddies are grown, it's appealing to do the odd thing just for fun. Of course, two out of three kiddies are still here, so they will get to enjoy it too:)

Can I just please note here that I miss James badly!!!

This afternoon I am booked in for ear-candling to degunge my ears. I am not happy with syringing (mainly due to incredibly rude practice nurse) so the ancient remedies are being given a ride for their money. Well, my money, actually. I'll let you know. In the meantime, speak up, won't you? Beg pardon?

Projects on my needles
I've noticed that with the appearance of the December page, my 'knitting on needles' section has not only not decreased, it has grown to the tune of no fewer than one more *most secret* project - in two parts, one of which will be crocheted for airyness and completability. More later.

And looking at the 'finished projects 2003', that means there will be several joining the list just before Christmas. I don't usually lay much store by quantity produced, but the list is threatening to become impressive by my standards, and I shall have to be careful not to want to outdo myself next year. I know, I know, it's not that impressive, compared with some... :)
