August 21st
I'm back!
I'm back from my craniosacral therapy course in Bath. Twas v. v. good, as usual. And... I've just taken delivery of
Cat Bordhi's Treasury of Magical Knitting , so far only available from amazon.com, in which she introduces the lovely moebius construction. So, I had to make a scarf immediately, which I felted - and it's beautiful!
I've also finished cat blanket number one, having added a cream border, following another of Cat's ideas for I-cord applied immediately as a border. I adapted her idea from applying I-cord along a row of stitches to applying it up a line of rows. Looks wonderful and is slightly padded as befits the edging of a discerning cat's blanket, i.e. just slightly raised to help retain balance when rocking gently on the edge of the window sill. Here it is, draped over some recipe boxes which JT has taken to frequenting. Note, of course, that JT has decided that the scarf on the sofa is a more appropriate cat blanket than the one designed just for her.

Of course I had to start another moebius scarf, this time in viscose and mohair (see my stash) with a diamond shaped relief pattern in purl and plain. Because of the construction, one can't open it up for viewing. It is a most strange way of working, with one continuous row as in circular knitting, but such that 'both' edges are just one continous edge. One knits from the length of the centre outwards. Hmmm.

Shhhh! More stash enhancements

I just couldn't resist this beautiful yarn from ebay: midnight blue / purple with subtle highlights. Almost tweed but not quite. Needs to be knit double for 4ply / sock weight.
And here is the cat blanket almost half way there.

Melanie's baby has arrived!
Melanie gave birth to a baby girl on Friday morning at 4am (UK time). So far I know, everyone is OK. I think another knitted item, maybe a bear, is in order to celebrate.
Tomsk is making a recovery of sorts and is being allowed out of his cage a few times a day to play properly. Tamara has the patience of several saints. :)

Books!
I've spent all morning updating the bookstore. *Massive*, ****massive**** thanks to all of you who buy your amazon.com and amazon.co.uk books through my bookstore. It helps me feed my reading habit. I hope it is looking a little more current now.
July 27th
Tomsk alert!
Poor Tomsk, of cat fame, was hit by a car and broke his leg (femur). It's all been pinned and stuck back together again, but he did not take well to being in a cage when ownee Tamara took him home, so he had a short tantrum, whipped his collar off, ripped out his stitches and ended hanging from the roof of the cage by as many claws as he could muster. Got taken back to vet and is staying there for a few days. I have to say I would have reacted the same way. As Tomsk. Out of solidarity I am knitting this cat blanket for him to convalesce on when he returns. Tamara was offered valium by the vet, but I am proud to say she didn't accept.

Rachie had really rather a good party. I can remember *everything* as I was driving.

Knitting books now:
Treasury of Magical Knitting by Cat Bordhi.
Introducing the moebius shape (maths and knitting meet in glorious harmony) - an amazingly simple method of knitting scarves and other items with only one edge. I am smitten.
As yet only available from amazon.com. That didn't stop me :)
1000 Great Knitting Motifs by Luise Roberts.
All in colour charts, a library of, yes, rather a lot of knitting motifs. Geometrical, allover repeats, borders, pictures, ethnic, contemporary, themed, for kids. Luise encourages knitters to look at the motifs not only as fairisle or intarsia motifs, but for use as textured or beaded patterning. Big ringbinding and clear charts make this easy to work from.
