What sad news for us to hear about Izzy's passing on to the happy hunting grounds in the sky. She is obviously a very fine cat and an excellent companion. I am sure her spirit is frolicking as we blog.

27th April 2003
The grey heel on Chris' Mexico socks is looking very good indeed. I considered black, but charcoal wins the day. Given that he takes size 11 shoes (UK) and likes 8 inch ankles to his socks, the separate heel and toe colours are crucial, if one is not to end up with a (dearly beloved) sock like this, where you can see that if I had foreseen the problem, black heels and toes would have been quite smart. No, I didn't consider frogging for even one minute, as the socks were already fully appreciated.

25th April 2003
Somehow I didn't upload the post where I described Chris' new Mexico socks. They are... well... colourful. Everything is Mexico except for the heels and toes which are mottled grey in eye-of-partridge chequerboard - not vertical stripes.

'Twas our wedding anniversary yesterday, and we worked out it must be 21 years, since Chris is now 20. I was the first to remember (about mid-morning) tee hee hee, and we went out for a meal in the evening to the Cock Inn, which is delightful.

Also went dress shopping with Toria for her prom in the day. She now has the most beautiful classy simple ballgown, superbly cut, in deep plum, with amazing dusky pink suede evening shoes. A silk wrap for the shoulders (it's strapless, of course), an evening bag embroidered in the same plum pinks and gold, and my pearls (what am I doing????) to set it off. I shall buy her some pearl earrings to go with the pearls. She looks incredible. When I think that all the boys had to do was hire a white tie penguin outfit from Moss Bros (actually I think Chris borrowed Mike's) and learn how to tie a bow tie properly, it doesn't seem fair. They miss out on so much fun!

What's all this furore about links in blogs? I've done the rounds, but my daily reads are ignoring the issue or refering obliquely to it. And there are an awful lot of links in the text today. Someone tell me?

Knitblog from Bloomington, IN. Very funny, and not just about knitting.

Reading now:
Pilates Body in Motion - Alycea Ungaro
Very clear guidance through the authentic Pilates method for body conditioning.

Harry Oldfield's Invisible Universe - Jane and Grant Solomon
Good account of Harry Oldfield's research starting with crystals and culminating in the electro scanning method. This is not a literary text, and the writing makes one cringe frequently, but the content is worth it.

The Client - John Grisham
Have got stuck with this one - may have to start it again. Very well written.

A Short History of Modern Philosophy - Roger Scruton
Extremely well written. Good one for those of us wondering if there is anything left in our brains from a philosophy degree...

Knitting now:
The Knitting Experience Book 1: the Knit Stitch Sally Melville
YES - It's been reprinted! The first in a series starting with garter stitich. The Knitters across the pond are raving about it, talking about "charming, clever designs", "classic, modern, hip" and "great sense of style". Absolute beginners and seasoned knitters are smitten! Jean Frost Jackets

This is fantastic for those of us wanting something a little more formal. Jean Frost has provided us with 21 patterns for jackets and shaped cardigans suitable for the office, most in double-knit and fine aran - only one bulky! She creates interesting fabrics in solid colours or multi-colour slip stitch. These jackets have sharp stying and are classy enough to stand the test of time. This will become a classic on my shelves.
