Bluey-green socks are finished and being worn (by me!). Hand-made socks are sooooooo warm and snuggly. I've started a pair of Opal Mexico for Chris, the son seen sporting his birthday socks below. None of the others seemed terribly enthusiastic about new socks, but Chris was keen, and had already bagsed the yarn he liked, so he gets another pair.

Er... what's the date today? It's definitely Easter Monday. I teach no classes this coming week, but I've managed to book in plenty of massages. Damn! Never mind, it's still a goodly break. Sock 2 is galloping down the instep, but stripy crossover has stalled.

18th April 2003
Yvonne from UK Handknitters (yahoo!group) has solved the riddle of where Patricia Roberts got to:

"Patricia Roberts, Kinnerton St. a few minutes walk from Hyde Park Corner on the way to Knightsbridge. A designer who sells yarn, books etc (If the shop appears closed there's a sign inviting you to ring the doorbell!)"

The sun is shining and the boys are repairing the waders with tractor tyre puncture repair stuff (it's so useful living next to a farm!)

What is really noteworthy about this still and tranquil scene (it dissolved somewhat when DH sprung a leak just above the knees in the middle of a pond) is DS sporting his birthday socks!!!

17th April 2003
The sock... Twisted 1x1 rib for the entire ankle and heel. Then twisted rib only over the instep half of the stitches, the sole continued in stocking stitch. The toe is all in stocking stitch. It does look very sleek on. You have to be careful turning the heel in 1x1 rib, so that the knit stitch lines all come together neatly. I frogged a little until I had worked out how to do it.

Here's the bluey-green sock:

12th April 2003
Have just completed some more Pilates training - the supervised teaching is one long nightmare, due to no supervising teachers in the area, and those I can find not actually wanting to do it. I am also suffering from training overload, which happens every time I push the envelope. It's also time to review *what it's all about*. If I get really involved in learning something new, I tend to forget the bigger picture temporarily. Then I get grumpy. Conclusion: I need a training break to consolidate, put into practice, find out more about and become very familiar with the stuff I've just learned. Remind me about that when I am getting excited about adding another piece to the jigsaw.

Having said all that, the second sock of the bluey-green variety is actually progressing rather well, and stripy cross-over top is looking like a real garment in the making.

Oh yes, and my second book is out and published. "Literacy, Numeracy and Citizenship through Modern Foreign Languages" may not hit the best-seller list, but it's done and dusted. And in October 2004 I shall receive just over £2 (around $3)for every copy sold. Hmmmmmm. I'll spend it on yarn, no doubt.

8th April 2003
Am just beyond the waist decreases on Spice, so shall attempt a pici later on. I've also finished one bluey-green sock which fits fantastically. Shall be casting on for the second sock this afternoon.
I haven't said much about the colour experiment recently, but I am grafting away. It's really odd how easy some colours get. I've laminated all the bits of paper, so I can pick them up without feeling the dye on each one.

5th April 2003
James' hair is looking gorgeous now, and the patchy bits disappeared by the end of yesterday. I have collapsed on the sofa with knitting (sock) as the week has been busy. Nothing really new to report. Pass the wine. What on earth am I going to cook tonight?

2nd April 2003
I've cast on for a cross-over top from the new Jaeger knitting mag number 9 ('Spice'). I am using wools from the stash in dusty pastels, and I am doing stripes with about three rows per colour. 30 or so colours. I'll use it for the Pilates classes - it looks a little like one of those old-fashioned ballet tops. But not in pink!

DS James (the middle one) turned up the night before last having abandoned fairly longish short hair for a No 1 all over. We were shocked and tickled at the same time... DH had hair down to his waist at 18, I never went home to let them glimpse my hair in the first place!!! It looks quite good, but might have been better had he not had it done by a couple of mates. There are patches where they obviously lost the plot a little... Given that he does modelling from time to time, I am just hoping that nobody from the agencies phones up wanting the melt-in-your-mouth Gareth Gates look he *used* to have. Grin.

This is from Kirsten at At My Knits End. I like it:
"... Tonya's just a pop music reporter. Nothing more, quite a bit less. Pin a tail on her, it'll make you feel better . . . "
